The Standards of LED Medical Lighting

Jul 27 2018

Medical lighting in doctor's offices and outpatient facilities is extremely important. This is especially paramount when it comes to procedures or outpatient surgeries. In exam rooms, lighting plays a major part in the success of the exam or procedure that is occurring. As such, there are standards in place for what works best for LED medical lighting. Let’s explore.

Medical lighting

Homogenous light.

The lighting setup in a doctor's office should provide consistent, homogeneous light. This should never waver, even when an obstacle such as a physician’s hand or instrument is in the way. In other word, shadows are a no-go.

Illuminance.

Illuminance, essentially, is the level of intensity of the light hitting a surface. For medical purposes, this measure of intensity is particularly important in providing clarity over certain areas of the body or cavities. For thorough exams and performing procedures, this is necessary for doctors to accurately assess the situation.

The LED Difference.

LED bulbs work best for medical lighting, as they offer 50,000 hours of cool, uninterrupted 4300 degrees K bright white light. When selecting the right LED lights for a doctor's office, superior lights can offer virtually no bulb replacement and no burnout. Therefore, LED lighting for the medical field is dependable, consistent, and visibly different.
