Posted by Booth Medical on Aug 19 2019

The number of people that suffer from hearing loss is not often discussed. In reality, there are over 20 million Americans that suffer from hearing loss. If we’re able to detect hearing loss early on, we’ll be able to help those to avoid awkward social settings and other long-term effects. Many individuals will have problems adjusting socially, have trouble with speech and language skills, and might have trouble learning. Notably, you see primary care for these situations. That’s why it’s important to have the right medical equipment to diagnose.

Detect Hearing Loss — Different Types

There are three types of hearing loss. Each one affects different parts of the ear, making sound harder to hear. Notably, there are also three parts to your ear. We’ve got the outer, the middle, and the inner. When sounds don’t make it past the outer ear, you’ve got conductive hearing loss. This means it’ll be hard to hear soft sounds and loud sounds might be muffled. The causes of this vary. Oftentimes, it could be a temporary thing, like when fluid gets in during a cold or from allergies. Unfortunately, there are other times when one might have a deformed ear canal or problems with the bones in their middle ear.

Secondly, there is sensorineural hearing loss. This happens when there is damage in your inner ear. Usually, there is a problem with the nerves leading from your inner ear to your brain. Soft sounds may be hard to hear. Additionally, even louder sounds may be unclear or muffled. When one is sick, has suffered a blow to the head, or is simply getting older, they can experience this type of hearing loss. Most of the time, a hearing aid will be the best solution. Unfortunately, surgery and medicine are very unlikely to fix the problem.

Lastly, when you have problems with two of the three parts of your ear, you have mixed hearing loss. For example, if you work around very loud noises and have fluid in your ear from sickness, then you would be suffering from a mixed hearing loss. This could make hearing loss even worse.

Getting Equipped

If you can detect complications with your hearing, it’s better to do so early on. With the right medical equipment, that can be done. Therefore, having hearing devices and audiometers for your nurse practitioners, family practitioners, and pediatricians, is a great solution. This equipment is fast and accurate. It will provide the best results and give an answer to a confusing and frustrating situation.
